TGI have approved the administration of booster doses of the Covid19 vaccine for those patients over 18 years to commence from 8 November 2021. Booster doses are not mandatory; however they are recommended to maintain immunity against Covid19. Booster doses of the covid vaccine are likely to be administered using the Pfizer vaccine regardless of the vaccine received for the first two doses. If your preference is to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine as the booster dose please discuss this with your general practitioner.
Booster doses can be given 6 months after the completion of your primary Covid19 vaccine course (i.e. at least 6 months after the date you received your second dose). Patients will be able to book an appointment on line via our booking system when they are eligible for a booster vaccine. Our on-line booking system has appointments 4 weeks in advance. If you have any questions please speak to your doctor.
Bookings for each vaccine will be at set clinic times for each type of vaccine. If you book in the Pfizer COVID vaccine clinic then you will only be able to get the Pfizer COVID vaccine etc. As with all COVID vaccines you need to meet the government edibility criteria to receive the COVID vaccine.

COVID Vaccine session times will be constantly updated. Our booking system will request that you complete an online COVID vaccine consent form when booking your appointment. This will automatically upload to your patient file for when you arrive for your appointment. You will also be provided with links to government resources and information about the COVID vaccine. If you have any concerns please speak to your doctor.
We realise that many people are anxious to get this vaccine and / or the booster however we ask that our staff be treated with respect and dignity when you call. If a patient does not arrive for their vaccine we will contact you possibly at short notice to fill that slot.
Eligibility for the COVID vaccines constantly changes. Please check government advice.

COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccination Advice
Routine scheduling and giving of an influenza vaccine with a COVID-19 vaccine on the same day is not recommended.
The preferred minimum interval between a dose of seasonal influenza vaccine and a dose of Pfizer/BioNTech or AstraZeneca/University of Oxford is 14 days.
There may be circumstances where co-administration or near administration (within days) of an influenza vaccine with a COVID-19 vaccine may be considered.
There is no particular requirement regarding the order of receiving a dose of influenza vaccine and either the first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
If an influenza vaccine has been inadvertently co-administered or given within a shorter interval than 14 days with a COVID-19 vaccine, revaccination with either vaccine is not considered necessary.
COVID-19 Vaccination Phase 1b Roll Out
Mornington Medical Group is able to supply our local community with COVID-19 vaccines for the Phase 1b roll out.
Initially we are receiving limited vaccine doses of 100 COVID-19 vaccines per week. Patients aged over 80 years of age and people on our substantial waitlist are currently being contacted. We will contact you when an appointment is available. Our COVID vaccine clinics are booked out for next few weeks and we have a substantial waiting list. As we get confirmation of the delivery of further deliveries of vaccines we will open up more clinics and contact the people on our waiting lists. The government will cover the cost of the COVID vaccination.
Our COVID vaccine clinic on line appointment booking system is not yet available due to the minimal stock we are receiving. As we receive more vaccines we will open up bookings for this specific COVID Immunisation Clinic.
Other locations that may have earlier available appointments are Carrum Downs Respiratory Clinic – online or 9782 6088 or Rosebud Respiratory Clinic – online or 0436 033 507.
To find out if you are eligible for the 1b COVID vaccine roll out please check the Eligibility Checker.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recommended that:
The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine be preferred over AstraZeneca for adults aged under 50 years. This is because there is a potentially higher risk of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia in people aged under 50, who receive the AstraZeneca vaccine
The AstraZeneca vaccine be used in adults aged under 50, if the benefits outweigh the risks for that person – and they have made an informed decision based on the risks and benefits
People who have had the first dose of AstraZeneca without any serious adverse effects, can be given the second dose. This includes people aged under 50.
The Australian Government has accepted ATAGI’s recommendations.
